Own a piece of Maya
tradition.
Centuries ago, the Mayan Civilization occupied
the jungles and mountains of southern Mexico,
Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.
A culturally sophisticated people, the Maya
elaborately decorated their temples and public
buildings in vivid color. Today, many of the
friezes decorating these monuments still exist
in faded glory.
Antiquity meets Today and
lives again.
The Rainforest Gallery brings you unique,
handcrafted reproductions of these
monumental motifs. Shown above are designs
from the fabulous ruins at Palenque, in
southern Mexico. Requiring as much as a
week to complete, no two of these paintings
are identical. The pattern is first burned
onto
sheepskin, then embossed, dyed and painted
by skilled artisans, descendants of the ancient
artists who produced the original temple
friezes.

Help conserve the LIVING, WORKING Rainforest,
its wildlife and its people.
Your purchase from the Rainforest Gallery
will give you the pleasure of owning a fine,
handcrafted object or work of art, as well
as the satisfaction of knowing that you have
helped create economic alternatives to forest
destruction for the people who live in the
tropical rainforest.
Sustainable yield means life for the forest,
its animals and its people. The people of
the rainforest have taken their living from
the forest since time immemorial. One of the
oldest crafts is woodworking, which has continued
through time to the present. The
beautiful hand-turned and crafted objects
that we bring you come from woods taken from
sustainable yield forest programs, providing
the artisan and his family a living and helping to
assure preservation of the forest, and its
wildlife.
